Like What You See? Maybe Write for BTSB?

It is though; come find out. Starting studying at the university is one of the great stages of transition in life. The pleasantly like-minded new acquaintances, the freedom and challenges of academic studies, and the many opportunities for new hobbies and pastimes is something that no other experience quite delivers.

For many, student organizations, parties, and *gasp* getting passing grades take up most of their precious time, especially in the early stages of student life. But then there's the type for whom it could very well be something like writing for BTSB that offers some of the most fulfilling endeavors for a university student.

If you find yourself stuffing desk drawers with drafts, notebooks with poetry or already have some experience with outlets for creative energies, BTSB might just be your proverbial cup of tea. Should you consider a career in creative writing or journalism, BTSB is a great stepping stone for those first forays. Several of our editors have even found paid writing gigs. While we're no full-time pros, we offer the sweet calm of regular deadlines, constructive feedback, and keep on publishing the finest English student journalism in Finland. The most important skill you'll learn with us is to write regularly and for an audience.

Tempted yet? Or still a little unsure?

The easiest way to get started and try your wings with that first article is by attending our next meeting on October 8 at 6pm in Thirsty Scholar Fabianinkatu 37). You don't need to come with a full-fledged idea, our editors are there to get you started and you'll be assigned a dedicated mentor to bring that first piece of writing to life. Genres, styles, and topics can be pretty much anything - we've done experimental poetry, reviews, interviews, news features, short stories, and everything in between.

Our meetings are chillaxed to the max, super effective, and no-one is going to stop you from grabbing a brew or two right after.

Think you might miss the meeting? Fret not! It's never too late to join up and you can always email our editor-in-chief Jesper (jesper.simola[at]helsinki.fi) with ideas. You can spy new issues and meeting invitations on the ol' faithful SUB mailing list - we'll do our best to keep you in the loop. And of course, you'll cyberfind us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

You might've already noticed that we're all for rhymes, puns, neologisms, intertextuality, pop-culture references, and, in short, everything that makes life worth living and writing. See you in the meetings!
