pearls of sorrow

pearls of sorrow

sorrow is waves crashing through us

clashing with the shards lying broken on the floor

our reflection staring back at us

always warped and never complete

yet

the more the waves wash over us

swallowing us whole

until it feels like there's no air left

slowly but surely the sharp pain loses its edges

until what is left are pearls

shaped like tears

and one day I can put them away in a beautiful box

taken out only occasionally
