Interview with the New President of Sub
Let’s meet Sub’s new president!
Congratulations on being chosen as Sub’s president! How has your presidency kicked off?
Thank you! The year has started really great. For the first time in a few years we have a full board with 20 members and it’s been really lovely getting to know everyone and hearing their ideas for this year!
Could you introduce yourself to our readers? What has your academic life looked like?
Hello all BTSBers, my name is Alice but people also call me Älis (or slaissi), confusing I know… I’m 25 years old and I’m originally from Kirkkonummi but I’ve lived in Helsinki for almost seven years now. I started my studies in 2019 and I graduated as a Bachelor of Arts just before last Christmas. I originally wanted to study English to become a translator but here I am, spending my masters studying literature. But I love it!
What kinds of things do you like to do when you’re not busy with Important President Things?
When I’m not busy with Sub related things I’m usually reading, playing games or starting some sort of a project before getting bored and quitting halfway. I also really like thrifting!
What have you done in Sub before becoming the president?
This year marks my fourth in Sub’s board. In my first year I was the Communication and Social Media Coordinator, and for the last two years I’ve been Sub’s Vice President!
What is the best thing about being the president in your opinion?
The best thing about being the President is getting to work with all of our wonderful board members for the bettering of Sub as an organization for the benefit of all of our members. We have a big board this year and I love hearing about their thoughts and ideas regarding how Sub works and how we could improve! When working with such a big organization as Sub, it’s super valuable to have so many people with their own outlooks, opinions and experiences as English students.
Is there anything in particular you want to achieve this year as the president?
One specific thing would be to get Sub’s own songbook ready for printing. In a more general sense my priorities regarding Sub are in making Sub as approachable, inclusive and accessible as possible. For that we as a board need to hear from members what we could improve on. So I hope everyone goes and fills our feedback form for the spring (you can also win a free sitsit ticket for next Fall)!
If you could choose a song to represent how you want the rest of the year to be like, what would it be?
For the rest of the year (or my life) I’m ready to be a Dancing Queen!
Lastly, what is an immortal quote you want to be remembered by?
Say it with me: “I feel Bonita”
Thank you, Alice! We wish you good luck on your term!
