Thirst

Thirst

Accept my humble offering
For this altar of time
I have a way to end your suffering
And it won't cost a dime
If you speak your truth
I shall tell you no lies
In the shadows of our youth
We will find our disguise
Resist me no longer
I am yours in twine
This bond makes us stronger
Beneath the stony shrine

In death I will gift you
The lust that commands
Flesh, bone and sinewy
The hunger demands
Our empire falls
When the dead run dry
So keep tally on the walls
Of those passing by
And do not dread the night
Nor the urge that it brings
This sanguine-bound rite
Was born from tattered wings

The music that you hear
It is yours to sing
But death dawns near
For those of you who cling

As darkness grows anew
And you greet your lover cursed
For the last time I'll ask you,
Will you tame the thirst?
