Letter to the Moon

Oh my Moon,

Does it get hot in space? If it does, won’t you come down to me and cool yourself in my dark waters? I would cradle you gently, and you could rest for a moment in a shell, if I could find you one big enough.

Yes, you are a shining pearl in the depths of the velvet night – so let me be a diver, cross the burning barrier of the atmosphere. Every night I dance on a stage set by your silver light, and I burst forth as a hot white geyser. I follow you, helplessly, crying out in waves. Sailors use stars to guide their ships, still they pale in your comparison. A shining northpole, you are the compass of the world. Stars die, I have seen it, yet you live on as an immortal. Though man, not unjustly, knows you as the Goddesses Selene and Diana, I would call you only my friend.

Forever and reverently yours,

The Sea
